In 2022, the state of Oregon enrolled in the Conservation Reserve Program (CRP) with an average price of $122 per acre, marking a 46% increase in CRP prices between 2021 and 2022. Hood River County stood out as the county with the highest CRP price per acre, paying $717 per acre for its irrigated land within the CRP program. This highlights the county's commitment to preserving and protecting its fertile agricultural land and the crops grown on it.

Hood River County, located in Oregon, covers an area of 533 square miles or approximately 334,308 thousand acres. It is known for its thriving agriculture industry, where the majority of private land is dedicated to cropland, making up 8% of the county's area. The total irrigated land in Hood River County is 16,409 acres, of which 14,741 acres are in orchards, with pears being the main crop, taking up 11,002 acres.


In addition to pears, the irrigated land in Hood River County is used to grow high-value crops such as cherries, peaches, apples, blueberries, nuts, lavender, berries, and grapes. The majority of the county is comprised of public land managed by various government agencies, including the U.S. Corps of Engineers, the Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife, the Bonneville Power Administration, and the U.S. Forest Service.
